A Once-in-a-Lifetime Opportunity
The Camino de Santiago pilgrimage in Spain is many things to many people; an opportunity to learn more about one's self, a journey filled with raw human connection, or a time to face who we are vs. who we want to be. Regardless, we know firsthand that it's life-changing.
The Camino isn't known for its accessibility, but many who possess physical limitations have taken it on. The task is daunting, but nothing is impossible, especially when you have others at your side.
Join us on this incredible journey as we walk/roll side by side with you for the last 111 kilometers (69 miles) for six days, enjoying nightly dinners as a community, and experiencing all that the Camino has to offer!
For June 2021, we have two date ranges for you to choose from.
You're In Good Hands!
For a second time, we have partnered with Camino Ways. Based in Dublin, Ireland, this incredible organization has been guiding pilgrims on the Camino since 2011! They will provide guidance and help us with logistics. Additionally, Justin and Patrick will be walking alongside you!
The French Route: Last 111 km
We chose the last 111 km of the Camino, starting in Sarria and ending in Santiago de Compostela. This stretch allows us to manage accessibility while ensuring you can get your Compostela (certificate of completion)!
The Itinerary: Sarria to Santiago
Below, you will find the specifics for each day of this once-in-a-lifetime pilgrimage. Click each date to expand and learn more.
Day 1 - Arrive in Santiago and transfer to Lugo
Day 2 - Walk/Roll from Sarria to Portomarin (22km)
Day 3 - Walk/Roll from Portomarin to Palas de Rei (24km)
Day 4 - Walk/Roll from Palas de Rei to Melide (14km)
Day 5 - Walk/Roll from Melide to Arzua (14km) and transfer to Santiago hotel
Day 6 - Walk/Roll from Arzua to Amenal (23km)
Day 7 - Walk/Roll from Amenal to Santiago de Compostela (14km)
Day 8 - Free Day in Santiago
Day 9 - Departure from Santiago de Compostela
To guarantee this journey is memorable, we've included everything we can think of to make it an experience of a lifetime!
Hotel for 8 Nights
Lodging for 8 nights is included in this package. We will be staying 4 nights in Lugo and 4 nights in Santiago. Any additional nights will be your responsibility.
Each night, we will be eating together as a community. We will dine at the hotel restaurants and several different restaurants in both Lugo and Santiago.
Each morning, we will gather for breakfast, enjoy incredible Spanish coffee, and talk about the plan for the day. After we eat, we will transfer to the day's starting point.
Transportation to and from the airport is covered. Have a wheelchair? No problem, we have an accessible vehicle reserved for the entire journey.
There is so much to take in along the Camino. English-speaking guides, provided by Camino Ways, will help us understand the history.
We will have support transportation available should anyone not be able to walk/roll an entire day and for emergent situations.
As we travel from town to town, we will need stamps for proof of travel. We will provide you with a pilgrim's passport to collect these stamps.
A Compostela is a document that demonstrates you finished the journey. You will receive this once we complete our Camino.
What's NOT Included:
We want to make sure we are clear regarding what's NOT included in the group offering. Please see below.
Airfare/transportation to Santiago is not included. You can use whatever means you like to book your travel and will pay for this separately.
Please make sure you bring cash to tip your servers. Tips and gratuities are your responsibility.
As we walk each day, it is important to stay fueled and hydrated. Your lunches and snack are your responsibility.
Spain has some great wine and beer. Any beverages you want are not covered, so make sure you plan accordingly.
People often buy souvenirs for themselves or loved ones back home. Any shopping is up to you to cover.
Any Extra Travel
If you choose to travel outside of the days outlined above, you will need to pay for it beyond the monies required for this trip.
*Note: Some of our dinners include beverages like soda and wine.
What's The Group Size?
We have a total of 50 spots per date range. We aim for a 5 to 1 ratio of helpers to those needing assistance. Each group's makeup is dependent upon who applies and we will give priority to individuals who need assistance and their helpers. Remaining slots will be given to those who want to help.
Space is limited, as half of the spots have been filled.
Can I Go If I'm NOT Disabled?
ABSOLUTELY YES! During the application process, let us know your intention of coming to help where needed. However, we will give priority to family and friends of disabled individuals who need help.
What Type Of Wheelchair Do You Require?
YOU WILL NEED A MANUAL WHEELCHAIR. Due to the nature of the trail, availability of electricity, and the need for lighter weight wheelchairs, we require individuals who use wheelchairs to bring a manual chair. We can discuss how to make what you have work when we interview you.
What If I Don't Have A Manual Wheelchair?
If you do not have a manual wheelchair, don't let that deter you. We can help you get one at little to no cost! Just let us know during the interview process, and we will connect you with those who can help.
